Scouts West is a group of people who are interested in trucks (4x4 and 2x4) made by International Harvester. Some of these models include the Scout, Scout 80, Scout 800, Scout 800a, Scout 800b, Scout 810, Traveler, Travelall, Travelett, 1010, 1110, 1210, 1310 and the SSII. Some custom models include the Midnight Star, Patriot. If Mopar and IH had gotten together back in the 70 they may have built the SSIIGTX, (a SSII with a 440 cubic inch engine). The types of wheeling we enjoy include, rock crawling, sand dunes and day trips to the local four wheel drive and off road areas.

May 25-27, 2012 is Memorial Day weekend and marks the start of summer. For those of us in the 4x4 community it is also the time for the 41st Annual Hi Desert Round-Up (HDR).

This year's event will be held at the new location on Anderson Dry Lake in north Johnson Valley. HDR is a family event with guided trail rides on Saturday to locations in the Cougar Buttes and the world famous Hammer Trails.

There will be a best-equipped game held Saturday evening. This game is open to everyone. Get a group of your friends and stuff everything you can think of in the vehicle you choose. When I say everything, I mean everything because you never know what will be asked for. Some of the more common items asked for are: U-joint, fan belt, first aid kit, gas receipt, cold beer (this is usually because the announcer is thirsty).

In addition, on Sunday there will be vehicle games for the adults and in the afternoon we will have games for the kids. The most popular game for the kids is the stick and can game. This is a kid's version of the adult game of the same name. Another version of an adult game is the potato scoop, where the kids have to follow a course and collect potatoes and put them into a bucket. On Sunday evening there will be a kids raffle as well as an adult raffle.

Register online here HDR 2012

Check out ScoutsWest's HDR discussion Hi Desert Round Up

Hope to see you all there,
MGMT

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER WESTERN REGIONALS 2012

Since 1996, International Harvester enthusiasts have gathered together over the third weekend in April to rekindle some very old friendships. Some come to catch up with folks they haven’t seen in a very long time; some come to admire these old iron trucks we all love so much. In our 16th year, we again return to the KOA Kampground at Calico, California from April 20-22, 2012.

This is a fantastic location for an event such as ours that offers a variety of activities for all our participants both on and off road. This year we are honored to be working with the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization which exists to honor and empower those men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to our Country.

To preregister for this amazing event, simply click on the link below and download the form. Mail the form to the address provided or bring it to the next chapter meeting.
