Hey all,
San Diego Chapter has a weekend planned to wheel and camp up at Joe Valdez's place. He is on 300 acres of land in Warner Springs. We figured we might as well cash in on this before it gets to hot. The weekend planned is June 13th. San Diego chapter members will be driving up Saturday morning as the drive up Friday night will just be horrible. This is also San Diego's first planned chapter outing.
Current plan is as follows: Drive up Saturday morning, upon arrival, we unload vehicles and get them trail ready. Joe will lead us on some trails he has already picked out. Plan for lunch to be on the trail. Upon finishing the trail runs and arriving back at Joe's place we can start to set up camp and relax awhile. For Saturday night dinner we are looking at doing a Pot Luck (side dishes, desserts), but bring your own meat to cook. For those adventurous enough, possibly a night ride? Sunday morning, cook your own breakfast, break camp. If time allowing and people want to, maybe a nice short scenic trail ride before heading home.
As for meals, you are responsible for your own utensils and plates. Further information will be provided on methods of cooking meals.
San Diego Chapter is planning on having an early monthly meeting next week either being Tuesday or Wednesday. Everyone is welcome that is planning on attending. If you are planning on attending please let me know so i can count you in so i know the number of people attending so we can figure out the Pot Luck portion for how many people. Haven't figure out the drinks for everyone yet, but for right now, plan on bringing your own drinks and a way to keep them cool.
More information will be coming so please check back and also post up if attending. Made a trip up to Joe's on Monday afternoon. Drive up was awesome. He took us on a real quick trip on a couple trails. And showed us around. Lots of room for people, got a few ideas for Saturday night dinner.
We think everyone is going to have a real good time over the weekend. The wheeling will be fun and easy, but at the same time, give you some challenge too. Planning maybe a run Saturday and one Sunday morning, maybe a second on on Saturday, will have to see how the day goes.
Will provide updates. William (Bill)- San Diego Chapter President 1978 Super Scout II SV 345, Holly 2300 2BBL, T19, Dana 300, SOA lift with 1.5" shackles, Dana 44s front and back with 3.73 gears, Detroit Locker in rear, 33x12.50 ProComp, On Board Air San Diego YouTube

**UPDATE** San Diego Chapter members will be meeting at Timmy's house at 6am with a departure time of 6:30-6:45am on Saturday morning June 13th. If you are late, just get onto Highway 67 and start heading towards Ramona. We will be stopping off in Ramona for Breakfast at the Ramona Cafe I think it is called. We will also either be refueling in Ramona or Santa Isabella, just waiting on word about the gas station at Santa Isabella.
Route we will be taking to go to Joe's Saturday morning:
Head north on Hwy 67 to Ramona
Drive through Ramona and other side of town becomes Hwy 78
Turn left at Santa Isabella to get on to Hwy 79
Drive about 34 miles and Joes house is on the left side of the Highway with a "White" "Preferred Real Estate" sign and a long white fence.
Upon arriving at Joe's, we will unload, stretch our legs, look over vehicles and say hellos to everyone that is there. We would like to be on the trail around 11am.
As for food. Plan on trail lunches for Saturday and Sunday. Bring your own snacks. Saturday's night main portion of the meal will be provided by San Diego Chapter. We will have hamburgers and hot dogs. Various other members will be bring some side dishes such as Potato Salad, Veggies, Chips and Salsa, Soda, Baked Beans. Bring your own eating utensils.
Plan on this being a normal camping trip, bring whatever you want to sleep in, bring cool and warm cloths. There is bugs so bring some bug spray, and also some sunscreen and a hat. There are also other animals and reptiles around, so please watch where you step. Also, please leave your pets at home, no personal pets will be allowed.
At this point in time San Diego Chapter is looking to have a dozen or more people going up with possibility of other people tagging along. I am not sure about other people from other chapters as they have not chimed in. Now is the time to do so.
For San Diego Members items I am checking for is as follows:
Hard Top and or Roll Bar
First Aid Kit (suggest also snake bite kit)
Fire Extinguisher (easy to get to, but also stowed away)
Spare tire (prefer same size, and tools to remove bad tire)
Seat belts for all passengers
Battery Tie down and secured
CB radio will be nice, hand helds are good also (will be on channel 7)
Reminder- what we pack in we should be packing out. We don't want to overflow Joe's garbage cans.
If there are questions please email or call me so we can get you answers. 619-742-2705 (cell) -email-

Iceman, how old are your kids?
Is anyone else bringing their kids? I may go solo or bring my 4-year-old daughter, just trying to get a feel for the atmosphere. She may want to stay home with mom and her little brother anyway, but figured I'd ask around.
